Social-ecological dimensions of housingCopyright: © Anne Söfker-Rieniets
It is difficult to reach an understanding on the qualitative aspects of the housing issue, such as how the supply of affordable, adequate housing can be ensured in this society in the long term. This field of research is determined by application-oriented policy and accompanying research, which - very strongly rooted in the history of housing ideas - focuses on the possibilities for action of state actors with the instruments of money, law and cooperation. Basic explanatory patterns in scientific discourse on phenomena such as segregation, gentrification or new forms of government and control are hardly "linked" with application-oriented research on housing provision and social-ecological research. Against this background, the text identifies research gaps and issues for joint action by policymakers, practitioners and researchers.
