Vernissage of the exhibition "New forms of living in the district of Euskirchen"
28th of September - 28th of October 2021
For the second time, a student project was carried out as part of the Alliance for Housing in the Euskirchen district in cooperation with the junior professorship for sustainable housing development at the RWTH Aachen Institute for Urban Development. This brochure summarizes the results of the project from the summer semester 2021.
In countless hours master students at RWTH Aachen University have developed ideas on how to turn vacant space into living space. This involved specific buildings from the municipalities of Blankenheim, Kall, Schleiden and Zülpich that were previously used for commercial purposes. The students developed innovative re-use concepts for the individual properties and also addressed local needs and conditions on site. In close exchange between students, municipalities and the district, drafts were developed that show the potential of the vacancies and how they can be used. The students showed which creative and flexible solutions can be used to eliminate vacancies and contribute to the revitalization of the places. Many ideas emerged that could be a stimulus for the model municipalities, but also for the other municipalities in the district.
